 The Corruption of our Children

In Part Four I stated Scripture makes it quite clear what must be done to reverse the tide of evil, yet many Christians wonder why America is in such a dire situation, while at the same time disregarding God’s admonition:

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”—2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV)

Or are we being affected by this verse?

“But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them; ²⁰ Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.” – 2 Chronicles 7:19-20

Our nation needs a new revival, a “Third Great Awakening” to bring back the blessing of our Lord.

Success of a revival rests with the teaching of our children. Teaching by the parents, not the state.

In an effort to teach morals to our children we are thwarted by the state in public schools that teach sex education instead of sexual abstinence. The state run schools teach that homosexual relationships are alright for an alternative lifestyle, even though the parents might disagree.

In 1997 in Northborough, Massachusetts parents demanded that a high school teacher be fired for teaching about sexuality and  possible homosexual experiences. He gave his students (in history mind you) a list of sixteen questions relating to sexuality. Among them were:

What do you think caused your heterosexuality? Is it possible your heterosexuality is just a phase which you might outgrow? Considering the menace of overpopulation, how would the human race survive if everyone was heterosexual like you? How can you become a whole person if you limit yourself to compulsive, exclusive heterosexuality? Should you at least try to develop your natural, healthy, homosexual potential?

This is just one example of how our schools are moving from teaching basic moral values, to teaching that it’s alright to have sex out of wedlock and to any other alternative lifestyle contrary to the Bible. They stress “safe sex” instead of “no sex”. We as a nation must take over the control of our children’s lives and the education of traditional family values.

In a 1994 column, Phyllis Schlafly gave some of the history on sex education and the results.

“Sex education started coming into public schools about 30 years ago, and became progressively more explicit until many courses include actual demonstrations of how to use contraceptives and pornographic videos to explain the facts of life to minor children . . . often without the knowledge of the parents.” 

In 1997 California state Assemblywoman Sheila Kuehl introduced AB101, a bill to widely broaden rights on the basis of “sexual orientation”. The bill would require school districts to use textbooks which place gay lifestyle on the same moral level as a heterosexual family, prevent campus religious groups from refusing membership to practicing homosexuals, and deny use of school facilities to groups which oppose homosexuality like churches, the Boy Scouts, etc. Fortunately for our children, AB101 failed on a vote of 36-40. That is much too close!

School-based clinics and sex-ed programs schools in many states became a major source for distributing condoms to students, often without parental knowledge or permission. Opponents of the condom program said abstinence is the primary message that should be conveyed—and having the schools distribute condoms doesn’t reinforce that message. 

Television is another area that is used to “re-educate” our society. It seems one can hardly watch TV anymore without being bombarded with profanity, sexually explicit content, or scantily clad women prancing around—and that just the commercials. Today’s “sit-coms” promote sexual promiscuity, profanity, homosexual relationships while ridiculing the traditional family values. The dramas are even worse. They not only promote the same things as the “sit-coms”, but they include violence in every imaginable area of life including, abortion, rape, etc.

When I was growing up in the ’50’s watching TV was a form of entertainment that actually promoted family values. If there was a bedroom scene   it was always with a married couple, fully clothed (usually in pajamas) lying in separate twin beds. Teenagers were never shown in sexually compromising situations as in today’s programs. Even the dramas were promoting family values. You never saw a star that played a good guy in one program play a bad guy in another program. It sounds silly now but in the movies and TV the good guys always wore the white hat.

One of my favorites was Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. For many of us who grew up with them, they always felt so much more personal than other Hollywood royalty. In their fanciful movie and TV dramas they took their position as stars to heart and always tried to set a good example. They cared about the influence they had on all the little “pardners” in their thrall, and they weren’t embarrassed to tell us so. Dale often liked to tell her own children as well as the rest of us, “Your life is the only Bible some people will ever read”; and for us youngsters who adored them, Roy and Dale truly were an inspiration of near-biblical significance. If our own parents weren’t around to help or maybe sometimes didn’t provide such good examples, the King of the Cowboys and the Queen of the West were there to show us how to live: how to make a slingshot from the prongs of a vining maple tree, how to shoot straight and ride smooth, how to be brave at times when we were scared, how to be decent human beings in the face of bushwhackers and bad guys.

The bad guys always lost and the good guys always won, not matter what. In programs it was not unusual to refer to a family going to church. They even showed them going to church, can you imagine? That’s when they actually had “censors” in Hollywood that would review everything that went on television and in the movies. If it was “dirty” or profane, it would not be allowed. Some say well what about freedom of speech? Keep in mind not all speech is protected under the First Amendment. You can’t yell “fire” in a crowed room and be protected. To some sexual content and profanity is the same as yelling fire. Hate speech is not protected either. The perversion of our youth is to some, Hate Speech.

When I was going to school in the 50’s and 60’s things were much different than they are today. During elementary school and junior high school, we would start out each day saying the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Yes, we said “and one nation Under God.” We also had    a time to pray if we chose to. Yes, these were public schools. When I reached high school, we could no longer say the Pledge of Allegiance or say a prayer. These two freedoms were taken away by the liberals of this country, by saying that the words “Under God” and any form of prayer, was outlawed because it was “unconstitutional.”

Times were simpler then, I admit. However, the degree that our society has declined in its moral values and judgment is frightening.

Through the re-education of our children in the public-school system and the perversion on television, our future is one of darkness and despair. With the government prohibiting the worship of God in public and the display of Christian symbols being banned in community areas, the only road we are on is the road to Hell.

Only through the Word of God can we help to reverse this trend. We must as believers make every effort to combat the powers in our government and our schools with the Truth of the Bible and the teaching of Jesus Christ.

It is because of the liberal agenda that people in power have towards society, that we have become a second-rate nation. We have lost the moral high ground that we once so proudly proclaimed. We have lost our moral compass that generations upon generations proclaimed in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Some of the first acts of the new presidential administration make it clear that there has been a dramatic change in the way that traditional religious faith is going to be handled at the White House. For example, when the new White House website went public immediately following the inauguration, it dropped the previously prominent section on the faith-based office.

A second visible change was related to hiring protections for faith-based activities and organizations. On February 5, President Obama announced that he would no longer extend the same unqualified level of hiring protections observed by the previous administration but instead would extend those traditional religious protections to faith-based organizations only on a “case-by-case” basis.

Significantly, hiring protections allow religious organizations to hire those employees who hold the same religious convictions as the organization…..
