One Nation Under God ~ Part Three

In Part One we learned about the Christian beliefs of our Founding Fathers. Part Two we saw what has happened to our nation when we removed God from His rightful place in our once great nation. Part Three continues in our discovery of the godless leadership of our nation.

The actions of the U. S. Supreme Court have been in direct contradiction to what the Founding Fathers intended. Prior to 1962 the high court has always ruled in favor of the religious intent of the Founders. Now with the liberal leaning of the courts in the 1960’s we have eliminated one of the key strengths of our nation, the belief and faith in Almighty God.

Look at our nation now.  We have never been so divided in recent history. Christians and Jews alike in this country are truly being persecuted as never before. Churches and synagogues are being burned. We are told to keep quiet about our faith because we might offend someone.

Does that bother you as it does me?  Are you offended like me? 

When prayer was removed from our schools in 1963 in another attempt to rid America of any reference to God, President Ronald Reagan recognized the danger of this act when he said:

“Our Pledge of Allegiance state that we are ‘one nation under God,’ and our currency bears the motto, ‘In God We Trust.’ The morality and values such faith implies are deeply embedded in our national character. Our country embraces those principles by design, and we abandon them at our peril. Yet in recent year . . . Americans . . . have for the sake of religious tolerance forbidden religious practices in the classrooms. The law of the land effectively removed prayer from our classrooms. How can we hope to retain our freedom through the generations if we fail to teach our young that our liberty springs from an abiding faith in our Creator?”

Another step in our moral decline was made as America’s citizens began to accept the beliefs of others as equal truths. Toleration lead to the reclassification of homosexuality as a mental illness in 1973. Now it is promoted in public education through “celebration of diversity” curriculum. Laws against sodomy were forced out of state legislation by the ACLU. Sex before marriage became acceptable through implementing standards of “Common Law Marriage” and the convenience of abortion.

While Americans cry out for more gun control, abortion claims millions of lives.

Dullness of heart compounds the dullness of mind.  

As with each generation, the new citizens of America became more unable to live by the words of the apostle Peter:

“But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:”—1 Peter 3:15 (KJV)

Always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you. How can they defend hope which they no longer have?

It is interesting to note that early Americans were facing a land of emptiness; their future and all their well-being held no security. Therefore, these people recognized their daily need for God, and their circumstances kept them dependent on Him. However, as America has grown to be a world leader and is economically stable, our society has forsaken God, not recognizing their constant need for Him.

The words of Jesus ring so true:

“And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.”—Matthew 19:24 (KJV) 

Scripture makes it quite clear what must be done to reverse the tide of evil, yet many Christians wonder why America is in such a dire situation, while at the same time disregarding God’s admonition:

“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”—2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV)

Or are we being affected by this verse?

“But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them; ²⁰ Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations.” – 2 Chronicles 7:19-20

Our nation needs a new revival, a “Third Great Awakening” to bring back the blessing of our Lord.
